Old Hero’s life

Hero – a 7.5-year-old gray rabbit. Since it lives in a wired bottom cage for too long, both hand’s fingers bones are fractured and its two foots are suffering from serious sore hocks.  Also, Hero’s lower body is suffering from urine burn. Pustules are all over its limbs. The pustules are even bigger than a quail egg. It is really hard to imagine how it could last in the past years!

We received an abandon rabbit application on July 31. Hero’s former owners’ new born babies are allergic to animal hair. Although he kept Hero in the toilet,  the situation of the babies did not improve. He eventually decided to abandon it. Since it takes several months to process the abandon application, he chooses to foster Hero at HKRS until the scheduled day.
On August 19, former Hero’s owner took it to the HKRS to check-in and complete the foster form. When he was asked by our staff if he will come and visit Hero, he said “I will not come and see him”. Throughout the years Hero is suffering from the pain and wishing to get its owner’s love, at the end Hero not only suffers from pain but also the abandoned pain.

In the first few days Hero lost its appetite because of the pain. It cannot even walk. It has to rely on painkiller and critical care. During its treatment we clear its pustule from the palm and inject penicillin. The situation begins to improve.

Hero is a very good rabbit. Although it is still far away from the recovery and every step for Hero is very difficult, we will always be there with it.
